Well the day has finally come and the Bandits are on the road again. I’m finally starting to experience life outside of a business parking lot and Jason Moffatt (MAH-FAT) is onboard and the bandits are finally Leaving Las Vegas. But before we headed out we checked out CoverEdge were I’ve been working since hitting the road.
LIFE
Road Life has taught me more about life than the previous 24 years of my life did combined. But one lesson that I’ve learned that has cost me dearly so far is planning. Getting rid of all the responsibilities I had in the past and then jumping in an RV on the road has given me the freedom to do whatever I want. But with that freedom comes an even bigger responsibility of staying focused and determined on always moving forward. In society today we have a system in place where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Yes of course there are exceptions, but the main rule of thumb here is that for the most part, those who play the game keep winning and those who don’t play the game…well the game plays them.
Its now 2010 and New Years Eve in Las Vegas is over and I’ve got some questions and I bet you do too. First off, why did I drink so much? Second, how did I end up in a hospital and why was I strapped to a bed? And finally, how did I get such awesome footage of my drunken escapades on the strip that night? Well these questions along with some juicy details on the “Night of all Drunken Nights” will now finally be answered.
A while back I was working a Seattle Seahawk football game and a co-worker came up to me and asked me how I was doing, I replied “fine…just fine” he then smiled and replied back “It’s your world Randy and I’m just in it.” Now that saying has made more sense to me than any other I have heard since. Its true, this is my world, through my eyes and right now my world is upside down!
John LaBossiere April 13th 1983 – November 1st 2009
This is by far the hardest post I have ever tried to write. Life has so many different stories and the story of John Labossiere has tragically ended. My good friend John was shot to death by a police officer in his hometown of Lake Stevens during a domestic dispute. The facts of how he died and why may never be known, but one fact is clear…I have lost a great friend. Some people impact your life when they are directly around you, others have bigger impacts on your life after they leave this earth. Once their gone you realize what they meant to you and how your life will never be the same without them. John LaBossiere impacted my life from the first time I met him and he’ll continue to be a part of my life until the day I make my exit.
No this is not “Betsy” my RV. This is just a frightening reminder of how bad things could get. Given all the mistakes I have made and the opportunities I have let slip away… it definitely could be a lot worse.
The Road Bandit Project is the hardest thing I have ever tried to do in my life. I feel like a failure that hasn’t truly failed yet. So much potential lies ahead, only problem is, I’m not moving forward.
Two nights ago I was hired to run audio for a live interview for HBO Sports. The interview was at Floyd Mayweather Jr’s home in Las Vegas. We were only going to be on-air for about four minutes but had to show up there six hours before the hit time. Let me tell ya being the undefeated welterweight champion of the world allows you to have one badass house.
Whats weird about naming my Cat “Bird”? Wouldn’t a Bird named “Cat” be even weirder? Well now that we got that out of the way its time to get some work done. But of course the only work I can get right now is in the middle of the desert. Why must Vegas be so crazy hot? Guess I will just have to deal with it while I finish up an HD Travel DVD of “Sin City” for a client. Once finished I will upload to Road Bandit for all to see. I can’t believe yesterday I woke up on the beaches of Cali and now I am parked right of of Las Vegas BLVD in 100 degree heat… If I only knew what I was doing.
Look left or right as you drive down a main street in your city and you’ll probably spot at least a couple. Walk a block or two in your city and they’ll find you. What are they? Better yet why are they what they are?…Confused yet? I am talking about of course our favorite roadside attraction sign spinners!
LA. We all know about it, but who here has truly lived it. There are so many different LA’s and I am out to discovery them all. Just point me in the right direction and let my camera and I do the dancey dance of fun. So if you’ve got suggestions on places, people or anything else that deserves being discovered about “The City of Angeles”, please feel free to send them my way.
“Without help from anyone I honestly would not be where I am today. Road life is rough and at times you will start to feel the lonely bug kicking in and things just feel less important when your sitting all alone in your RV”.
First off, I gotta thank the behind-the-scenes Road Bandit crew. Theses two madmen have supported me since the start, and both have offered their talents in Photography and Video to bring you those impressive shots that I of course would never be able to do. Casey Fessler is a Photographer out of Las Vegas and about 90 % of the photos seen on roadbandit.com have come from him. You can check out all his work at www.propermonkey.com and if you like what ya see order up a couple of prints and he can get them to you ASAP. Scottie Minshall is also a Photographer/Videographer out of Las Vegas who is currently enrolled at UNLV partying it up. Scottie can be seen nightly at the Planet Hollywood shooting the Steve Wyrick Magic Show. Both of these guys have helped me out greatly so far on my journey, but they aren’t the only ones I need to be thanking.
